Our mission is to be the catalyst for you to realize your best life by achieving your life's passion. Life Realized provides an environment of creative opportunities through education, mentoring, and support, each designed to help you achieve your life’s passion and realize your best life.
Our current Program Catalog provides opportunities to achieve your life’s passion in art, music, career enhancement/change, and small business entrepreneurship development and mentoring. New programs will continue to be introduced as the interest in them are identified in the Community. Here are three examples of how our music-related Programs provide demonstrated growth opportunities for members of our Community.
Weekly Open Mic Program
Started in October of 2018, our Open Mic Program provides a weekly opportunity for musicians of any age, ability, experience level, and genre to develop their live performance skills in a safe, appreciative, and supportive environment. Attendance in the first nine months has seen over 500 performances and 2,200 audience members.
Musicians Scholarship Fund
To our knowledge, no other Open Mic Program has a Scholarship Fund associated with it. Donations received at our Community Music Showcase Events goes to our Scholarship Fund. That Scholarship Fund is used to directly benefit our performers, through shared cost of instrument repair, upgrades, and replacements, lessons, and skills development workshops. We are honored to associate our Scholarship Fund with Rick Asmega, a local luthier, multiple Emmy Award-winning audio engineer, musical mentor and resource, who has been of enormous help to many of our performers.
Music Showcase Events
In cooperation with Englewood, FL, and the Sarasota County Community Redevelopment Area (CRA), Life Realized holds a Community Musical Showcase Event on the second Sunday of every month in the Dearborn Street Plaza (municipal park). The CRA provides the permitting and portable County stage for our use. This Event provides our Open Mic performers with the opportunity to perform in front of a much larger audience, with a large sound system, on a big stage. (It also provides opportunities for collaboration among performers with varied experience, as shown in this photo.)
How we got here…
Two of the principals of Life Realized volunteered for three years for the original non-profit prior to its reorganization and name change (to Life Realized) in mid-2019. During that time, they were responsible for the creation of numerous new programs in music, small business entrepreneurship, education, and local-area sustainable food growth:
Music: produced 17 concert events; started community-based weekly Open Mic program (Oct. 2018); started open mic associated Scholarship Fund (which collected over $2,500 in six months); held stringed instrument repair workshop for open mic participants, with cost-shared instrument repair through Scholarship Fund;
Small Business Entrepreneurship: provided multi-session business development counseling for on-site nursery; provided classroom space, promotion, and other needed support for local artist to transition to Art Instructor, currently with multiple (watercolor) painting class offerings; created, promoted and coordinated a weekly local-area artisan/craftsperson fair to provide those vendors with community exposure and the opportunity to sell their wares;
Education: coordinated and offered numerous workshop/series in topics including Basic Fermentation, local edible plants, self-exploration, cooking and healthy living, drum making, arts and crafts in various media;
Local-Area Sustainable Food Growth: organized and coordinated two annual Edible Landscape Tours, which provided local residents and visitors alike with the opportunity to tour local-area properties whose owners are actively engaged in growing food using sustainable techniques;
Executing each of these successful programs required significant time, energy, and attention to myriad details. It is this history in program creation, development, and execution that is now being focused on the future, by continuing existing programs and creating new ones to support our clients as they seek to realize their best life by achieving their life's passion.
Where we’re going…
Life Realized will bring our programs directly into the Community, where those we can help work and live. We will seek out those in our Community who support our mission, and give them the opportunity to join our efforts as volunteers, committee members, program coordinators, instructors, and mentors. It will be the combined efforts of and for the members of our Community, as well as their financial support, that will allow Life Realized to succeed in our mission to help everyone who is willing to realize their best life by achieving their life's passion.
